The Season of Lent

The first Christians observed with great devotion the days of our Lord's passion and resurrection, and it became the custom of the Church to prepare for them by a season of penitence and fasting. This is the season of Lent.  Converts to the faith are prepared for Holy Baptism at Easter, those who had been separated from the body of the faithful are reconciled by penitence and forgiveness, and the whole congregation puts in mind the message of pardon and absolution set forth in the Gospel of our Savior.

We invite you, therefore, in the name of the Church, to the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God's holy Word.

Lenten Devotions

Stations of the Cross: Wednesdays in Lent (February 21st — March 20th) at 6:00pm we will be praying the Stations of the Cross. This is a spiritual pilgrimage with Jesus through his crucifixion. Following our prayer we will gather in the parish hall for a modest soup dinner.

Reconciliation: Friday (March 15th) from 6:00-7:00pm there is opportunity to receive the Sacrament of Reconciliation in which we confess our sins, that we may receive the benefit of absolution, spiritual counsel, and the strengthening of our faith. Penitents make their confessions at the altar rail with priest behind confessional screen.  Appointments can be made with the rector for reconciliation at another day, time, or location. This is a healing sacrament. Do not be afraid.
